We are so lucky to have an amazing team of passionate and nurturing people. Our staff are our greatest asset and not a day goes by that we aren't reminded of that. They guide children through milestones of their early years, hold treasured sticks, identify countless insects, wipe tears and bums, cook amazing meals, read and tell thousands of stories, all with pride, patience, and a kindness that can never be repaid.

    Andrea is an RECE and has been in the field of childcare since 1995.

    Andrea has combined her love of children and nature along with outdoor education to help build and deliver the programs at Hundred Acre Wood.

    In her spare time, Andrea enjoys home schooling her two children, yoga and reading.

    Madi holds her Recreation & Leisure Diploma, Volunteer Management Diploma, and is a recent graduate in Early Childhood Education.

    She strongly believes that nature based learning provides an opportunity for children to connect with nature, learn to respect their environment, and the animals that are in it. They get a chance to use their senses, smelling the fresh air, touching the mud, tasting the apples off the tree, hear the birds chirping and see the seasons changing. It creates a space to take risks, have unhurried play time and endless opportunities to learn.

    Kyra is a Registered Early Childhood Educator and mother who has a passion for nature and the outdoors. Originally from Toronto, she followed her heart North and now resides in beautiful grey county. Kyra is honoured to help guide your little ones first journeys into the forest as HAW’s toddler teacher.

    Dani is a Registered Early Childhood Educator and Mom. She has been in the field of Early Childhood Education for 6 years. With a strong belief in nature based learning, she believes children are their happiest selves surrounding by nature and fresh air. With the freedom to explore the natural world around them they grasp a greater understanding of their physical and emotional self.

    Kim holds a Masters in Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability and an honours Bachelor in Kinesiology and Business. Kim combines her passion for a sustainable future with her experience in non profits, international development, and outdoor education to guide big picture projects and day-to-day operations at HAW.

    Joanna is currently a B.A. candidate in Psychology with a focus on Child Development. She developed her drive to create a forest preschool, love of nature and passion for the not-for-profit model while living in the Yukon. Joanna worked for various organizations including directing a not-for-profit daycare, sitting in various positions on the board of F.A.S.S.Y. (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Society of Yukon) as well as the Yukon Child Care Board.

    Janet is a registered Early Childhood Educator, with an honours Bachelor in Leisure Studies and a postgraduate certificate in Outdoor Recreation. Janet partners her appreciation for the natural world with her delight in fostering wonder and exploration, as she learns alongside the Kindy Crew each day

    Sam is a Registered Social Service Worker with Indigenous Specalization. She was born and raised in Heathcote and has a love for the valley and Kimbercote. Sam has spent time at a non-profit as well as in the local school board. With an enthusiastic approach to learning in nature Sam is thrilled to be able to share each day learning and growing with the children at HAW.

  • Primary Pod Educator

    Sara earned her BA in English, and BEd at Nipissing University. The majority of her full time teaching experience has been in the junior division, but she has a wide range of teaching experiences ranging from kindergarten to high school. Sara developed and offered a child-led learning program for children aged 4 to 12 where participants were invited to her home and property to explore, play, and grow. Sara’s two youngest children, now aged 15 and 17, have been in and out of the formal school system, at their choosing. She is really excited to be a part of HAW’s extended offerings for the primary pod, and looks forward to being a part of the journey with students, staff and families.

  • Michelle has been an RECE since 2018, working with children of all ages, from Toddlers to Kindergarteners. She's passionate about nature-based learning, believing it offers children unique opportunities to explore, take risks, and engage their senses in ways indoor spaces can't. Michelle loves seeing kids use natural materials to spark their imagination.

  • Adeina holds a degree in Kinesiology, along with certifications  such as  Wilderness First Responder, and in CAA Avalanche Operations 1.

    She is passionate about inspiring the next generation to connect with nature, emphasizing caring for the natural environment, and the role of risky play. By engaging in challenging outdoor activities, children develop confidence, decision-making skills, and a sense of accomplishment. This allows children to foster a deeper appreciation for the Earth and their own abilities.

    Adeina enjoys outdoor activities like hiking, paddling, yoga, and skiing. She loves to embrace the adventure and moments of peace that being outdoors brings.

  • Katrina is a nature educator who loves learning alongside her students. She is a trained archaeologist, OCT certified teacher, Forest School Practitioner, and Certified Ontario Master Naturalist. She was director of Wild Path Forest School from 2020-2024, and is thrilled to be joining the HAW community in September. In her spare time she can be found hiking the Bruce Trail with her family.

  • James is a passionate teacher who believes children learn best when through activity and experience. After receiving a Ph.D. in Ancient History, James began teaching research and writing at the Secondary and Post-Secondary levels before joining Headwaters Academy as a primary school instructor. When he is not teaching, James is often exploring the Beaver Valley, gardening, cooking, and reading.

  • Jaclyn is a Registered Early Childhood Educator and a mom of two. She has been working in the field for 10 years. Strongly believing in nature based learning and all the benefits it has on our health, mind, body and soul. Through outdoor play, children are able to gain a better appreciation for nature, increase their focus, imagination, creativity and help develop advanced problem solving skills. The outdoor environment gives them space and time to learn at their own pace and test out what their bodies are capable of doing.
